How to use IE and EG _correctly_:
- i.e. - basically "In Essence". Used when you're giving the gist of what something means
- e.g. - basically "Example Given". Used when you're literally providing an example of something
...but I don't believe these are the literal translations of the initialisms "i.e." and "e.g."
