Exit surveys from the Navy and from businesses tend to list the following reasons for why people quit their jobs, in this order:
1. Not being treated with respect or dignity
2. Being prevented from making an impact to the organization
3. Not being listened to
4. Not being rewarded with more responsibility
5. Low pay
So, people care about money, but they care more about being able to make an impact.
This would tie into [[Intrinsic Motivation]], and also makes me think about [[Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs]], and also the [[The Toyota Way]] principle about enabling those closest to the problem to solve the problem.
