The [[GTD]] approach is a bottom-up approach. It focuses on the trivial and administrative work of managing the little things that come up every day. This is the opposite of the general "Aligned Productivity" approach espoused by Taylor Pearson in his [[Antifragile Planning Method]], Cal Newport in his Multi-scale planning, and August Bradley with his whole [[Pillars Pipelines Vaults|Notion-based life operating system]] thing.
> [!success] Top down planning _is_ a good approach, but only if you have the skills necessary to execute on it, day-by-day.
This means:
- having a system to help you manage what's on your mind
- having the tools and discipline to actually _use_ the [[Time Blocking|Focus Block]] you set for yourself
- not [[Majoring in Minor Work]] or being overcome by [[Small Tasks in Great Quantities]]
- getting those little things that fill up the space in your calendar knocked out
- knowing what your top-level plans _are_, and increasing [[Goal Presence]]
- knowing how [[Think Small to Solve Big Problems|small steps move you toward your top-level goals]]
You need to avoid death by 1000 cuts.
