I heard a good quote from a [[Huberman Labs]] episode with [[The Tim Ferriss Show|Tim Ferriss]]:
> The mind cannot control the mind
You cannot simply "will" your way out of a depressive funk, lethargy, bad habit, diffuse focus, or other non-productive mental space. Simply trying to "feel better" or "find the energy" is not really a winning strategy. What the mind *can* do[^1] is choose a better context, one in which the desired result is more likely to occur naturally.
This is essentially me realizing that there's a connection between my notes on [[Tailor Your Environment]] and [[Forcing Mood Change]].
Be with people who make you happy. Move your body. Go for a walk outside. Clean off your desk. Leave your phone in the other room. Lift some weights. These are all ways to influence the mind.
