Scatter chart is arguably the most basic form of [[Plot (diagram)]]. You have elements and place them along a number (typically 2) axes in accordance with their value.
Scatter charts are useful in determining [[Correlation]]. In particular, [[Pairwise Plot]]s which are essentially just multiple scatter charts grouped together in a logical way.
[[Quadrant Charts|Matrix Diagram]]s are a form of 2d scatter chart.
If your scatter chart passes the [[Functions#Vertical Line Test]], then you've got a [[Line Plot]].
