From [[Andy Matuschak]]'s public notes - he breaks down what I call 'Permanent Notes' into a series of different types. These are his, in order of increasingly developed as you go down. The indention are my equivalents, if they exist. - **Stubs** - not full notes - I have many notes that are stubs, but usually they don't stay stubs. Often, for me, a stub is something that _almost_ could be a tag, but didn't make it. Things like [[Inflammation]], [[Stress]], and [[Python]] all started out as stubs. - **Definitions** - For me those are tagged with `#langauge`, which is a bit of an overloaded tag in my case - having to do with language and pure definitional notes - **Bridges** - spanning related notes - I have no distinction for these, but presumably I have many that could fit this description - **Narrow, declarative notes** - e.g. his 'Prefer note titles with complete phrases to sharpen claims' note. - These are becoming my favorite, e.g. [[Use Full Sentence Note Titles to Crystalize Thought]] - These are _probably_ **the most valuable notes** in this cache - they are the kinds of things that you couldn't find a [[Wikipedia]] article for. There is no _one_ tag for these, but many things tagged `#principle` and `#philosophy` are these. - **Questions** - if no conclusions are drawn - I don't think I have any notes like this? I maybe should - **APIs** - whaaa? I don't understand his explanation on these - ... I re-read [his explanation on this](https://notes.andymatuschak.org/About_these_notes?stackedNotes=zDh1yhNFQNxDEre12B4zd8k), still don't really get the distinction he's drawing from "narrow" notes - **Abstractions** of many other notes ([[Inductive vs Deductive|Inductive Reasoning]]) - These are notes like mine on [[Do the Simplest Thing]], those more abstract generalizations that themselves call out many concrete examples. These are overlapped with my `#index` tag - **Outlines** - preparing to convert [[Intermediate Packets]] into content - I dont' have these? At least according to his definition? Or maybe I do, but I don't think of them that way. Either way, no biggy. **** # More ## Source - [[Andy Matuschak]] - [Long titles](https://notes.andymatuschak.org/zLhoRUyjKU665EY16u4XXJy) ## Related - [[Note Types]] - [[Evergreen Notes]]
