An `iamb` is a [[Metrical Foot]] consisting of one _unstressed_ syllable followed by a _stressed_ one. It gives a quality of "da-DUM, da-DUM, da-DUM" to the writing. The meter (in writing) describes the combination of the metrical feet that are combined.[^1] Individual words may be iambic. Like “provide” or “unite”, although iambic poetry need not be made from only iambic words. `A gift from mom is nice` is iambic Tri-meter.
