Free Radicals are unstable molecules that cause wear and tear ([[Oxidative Stress]]) in the cells of the body, including affecting the DNA. They are:
> [!cite] Per [[Good Energy (book)]]:
> Free radicals are molecules with a negatively charged, highly reactive electron that seeks to neutralize itself by binding to other structures in the [[Mitochondria]] and cell and, in doing so, causes significant damage.
**Antioxidants** are those things that reduce free radicals.
Free Radicals were once theorized to be the primary agent of aging. This, though, is no longer believed to be true.
# Not All Bad
Exercise _**produces**_ free radicals, based on some half remembered podcast or book. [[Good Energy (book)]] states that:
> [!cite] Per [[Good Energy (book)]]:
> Normally, a low and controlled level of free radicals is healthy and they act as signaling molecules in the cell.
