I like, and tend to default to a cartooney style when it comes to drawing. Cartoons are not constrained by real-world proportions and features, but being *able* to achieve those can help and is a worthwhile skill for anyone who likes to draw (or at least doodle).
I consider myself okay at drawing for someone who doesn't draw, and has no real training in it --- but **bad** in comparison to someone who *does* draw.
I did a quick [[Excalidraw Art]] self portrait, then compared that to image of myself which I traced:

Obviously not great. However the things I've learned from this[^1] is that I most often get **proportion** wrong[^2].

I looked around for "portrait proportions guide", there are lots of little [[Rules of Thumb]] that you could learn. Here's an example which illustrates many:
