[XKCD #2475](https://xkcd.com/2475/)
I've heard a quote before that was something close to:
> Americans have the worlds most expensive pee
Because we take vitamins and supplements our body can't process, which wind up going right through us into the toilet.
This, plus the general suckiness of taking pills and powders every day, _and_ the expense of procuring supplements themselves means it's wise to use a judicious eye when looking at potentially supplementing your diet. All that said, here are some commonly recommended ones.
CYA: I am not a doctor and this is not advice. This is my notes for me.bro
# Potentially "Worth It" Supplements
- **[[Caffeine Content|Caffeine]]** - my favorite supplement - Coffee.
- **[[Protein]]** - Whey protein, pea protein, other forms. Supplementing protein is something I've done for years.
- **Multivitamins** - cover most your bases at once, these may be where the "expensive pee" comment comes from though
- **Creatine** - can help maintain your body's energy supply
- Per ChatGPT:
> Creatine is one of the most well-researched and commonly used supplements for improving athletic performance, increasing strength, and helping with muscle growth. It’s typically taken in powder form and is generally considered safe for most people when used as directed.
- **Fish Oil** - supplement your Omega 3 supply to help the Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio.
- **Vitamin D** - helps with [[Mitochondria]]l health
- **Magnesium** - shows up in lists like this a lot, but I've not done due diligence on it
# List from [[Simple Science Fitness]]:
Simple Science Fitness also stresses supplements are _supplemental_ and are less important than and overridden by a [[Healthy Diet]]. I found this list _after_ constructing the list above, and the overlap either confirms I'm on the right track or that I'm in an [[Echo Chamber]].
- Protein Powders
- Vitamin D3
- Fish Oil
- Caffeine
- Creatine
