> [!tldr] [[Deliberate Practice]], but also deliberately fun
[[Deliberate practice]] & [[Drilling Cycles]] can be an absolute slog... but they don't necessarily *have to suck*.
The concept of deliberate play is to **find a way to make something that you *need* to do to improve into something you want to do for fun**.
Examples:
- Many forms of gamification (self-directed, though)
- Imposing novel [[Constraints Breed Creativity|artificial constraints]] to explore new methods (e.g. "I'll shoot left handed")
- *I'll play this at double-speed!*
As with a whole bunch of things, I find that I've been unknowingly implementing this [[Disambiguating Principles and Best Practices|Best Practice]] with the [[PDW|Data Journal]].
