There are two mindsets regarding what you do for work - depending on which direction value is going.
- The **passion mindset**
- what can I get out of this job?
- What is the world offering me?
- The **craftsman mindset**
- what can I give to this job?
- What can I offer the world?
Cal argues that the craftsman mindset is the foundation for a compelling career.
When going for "the Craftsman Mindset", look for opportunities to develop skills that are **rare** and **valuable**. Cal called that [[Career Capital]].
He also said that you shouldn't become a "craftsman" if:
1. The job doesn't give you the opportunity to develop **rare** and **valuable** skills
2. The job is, in your view, not useful or perhaps actively harmful to the world
3. It forces you to work with people you can't stand
