This note is mostly a vocabulary note. Maps that overlay data onto representations of geographic areas are called choropleth maps.

If you are showing a [[Heatmap]] on a choropleth map, it's *probably* in your best interest to normalize your data to "per-captia", else you end up with this [[Relevant XKCD]]:
