> [!tldr] Business, Data, Applications, Technology
While there's many ways one could validly slice and dice an enterprise, the **BDAT** domain scheme is one of the most popular.
- **Business**
- The mission & [[What is a Strategy|strategy]] of the business, [[Business Capability Models]] - it's [[Value Stream Mapping|value streams]], and [[Core Business Processes]]
- This also includes things like org charts, goals, governance models, etc
- **Data**
- The data on which the business operate.
- The conceptual, logical, and physical layers.
- This also includes data life cycles, metadata, master data, governance, & other data processes (e.g. quality/stewardship)
- **Applications**
- The software that run the business - they enable capabilities
- That which produces, generates, and acts on the data
- Also the interfaces and services between them
- **Technology**
- The technology on which that software runs and the constraints/standards by which it abides
- This includes the environment (e.g. on-prem, cloud), operating systems, language standards, middleware, etc.
