> [!tldr] [[Archimate]] has in-built _viewpoints_, intended to filter their metamodel to "aim" at a particular purpose
[[Archimate]] is capable of saying a _lot_. This expressive scope is powerful, but comes at the cost of some level of [[Analysis Paralysis]] and or [[Target Confusion]] when it comes to making [[Coherent Stories are Easier to Believe|coherent stories]] from a diagram. The source (in particular the visual paradigm source) is an **excellent** overview of this topic.

The archimate spec includes **viewpoints** to make it a _bit_ easier to not "hang yourself" with the extra rope available to you... There are a _lot_ of specified "in-built" viewpoints. Not all of them feel equally important, in my view.
In practice, though, I've found the viewpoints to be... I mean not _unhelpful_, but I haven't often wanted to say something that was neatly constrained by a single pre-defined viewpoint in the language.
[[Archi]] has viewpoint filters, which is handy.
# Some viewpoints of note:
I tend to favor viewpoints that traverse the business/application/technology/motivation layers.
## Layered
This viewpoint doesn't actually _filter_ anything, which is interesting. I guess it's just an organizational scheme. I'd suggest renaming this view to the _services_ view, because it shows the **layers of services** that separate the core archimate layers (business, application, technology).

## Application Usage
Showing how different application components & services are activated in the sequential delivery of a process.
