The idea that "walk 10,000 steps and you're healthy" seemingly came out of nowhere a few years back. There's nothing "special" about the number 10,000, it was just a number that "sounded good" to the person who came up with the concept. I **think** it originated in Japan, like many good health-related ideas (see: [[Ikigai]], amongst others).
# Legitimacy
- While 10,000 steps is not a magic number - it **is** a good goal to aim for
- There are plenty of studies that show walking more, and more _frequently_
- Really any form of movement is good, but 10,000 steps is a great, memorable goal that's achievable by most
# 10,000 Steps and Me
I do not achieve this number, on average. Even during my [[75 Hard]] I averaged just shy of 10,000 steps.
I am not helped by having a longer stride than essentially everyone... but still I don't move enough.
